Day 1 : Fly to San Antonio
Unpack and settle in for an enjoyable eight-night stay in San Antonio. Holiday Vacations guests will be surrounded by a warm and friendly atmosphere, comfortable accommodations, and a prime location.
Day 2 : City Sights & River Walk Cruise
An expert local guide joins us as we visit the largest of the Texas missions, beautiful Mission San Jose. Known as the Queen of Texas Missions, this restored National Historic Park provides a visual representation of how missions looked over 250 years ago. We will also visit the Spanish Governor’s Palace, a National Historic Landmark that was once the capitol building of Spanish Texas. Our day continues as we explore San Antonio and experience downtown’s authentic Mexican marketplace, El Mercado. Interact with working artists or sample local cuisine at family-owned restaurants in the largest Mexican market north of the Rio Grande. Later we board a River Walk flatboat for a cruise on the Paseo del Rio canal, located 20 feet below street level. Gain a unique perspective of the River Walk while the boat captain, famous for storytelling, entertains us with fascinating details of San Antonio’s past. Tonight we dine on award-winning cuisine along the charming River Walk at Biga on the Banks.
Day 3 : LBJ Ranch
Today we view World War II memorabilia at the National Museum of the Pacific War in Fredericksburg. Exhibits in the 23,000-square-foot gallery tell individual stories and display personal effects of the men and women who served. After free time for lunch in Fredericksburg, a town rich in German heritage and Texan hospitality, we tour the Lyndon Baines Johnson National Historic Park and LBJ Ranch in Stonewall, chronicling the life of our 36th President.
Day 4 : The Alamo
The story of the Alamo comes to life as we view Alamo: The Price of Freedom at the IMAX© Theatre. We are transported back to 1836 as the 13-day siege of the rise and fall of the Alamo is presented on the big screen. Next, visit this famous city landmark inside beautifully landscaped grounds. Our included lunch brings us to the historic Menger Hotel. The property opened in 1859 and is well known for being the location Theodore Roosevelt recruited his Rough Riders. The remainder of the day is at leisure.
Day 5 : Austin Sights
Today we head to Austin, the state capital, where we enjoy a narrated guided tour of the State Capitol Building. This afternoon we visit the Bullock Texas State History Museum. The museum features some of the most significant artifacts of Texas’ rich history and culture. Explore interactive exhibits and learn about each floor’s emphasis on a specific theme: Land, Identity, and Opportunity.
Day 6 : Leisure Time
The day is at your leisure. Our hotel’s location offers a terrific opportunity to stroll the tropical walkways, gourmet restaurants, and rare boutique shops along the San Antonio River. You may choose to visit the San Antonio Museum of Art, the San Antonio Zoo, or the Witte Museum. Your Holiday Vacations Tour Director will assist with any arrangements.
Day 7 : Botanical Garden
This morning we visit the San Antonio Botanical Garden, a beautiful getaway in the heart of the city. For lunch on our own, we visit The Pearl, a cultural hotspot in the city, home to shops, restaurants, bars, live performances, and so much more. Here we will experience Pearl’s Farmers Market, a true representation of South Texas’ growing, ranching, and artisanal food community. With over 45 vendors that all originate within a 150-mile radius, this will be a fantastic way to meet food producers, taste a variety of locally grown foods, and find unique artisanal goods. Later, at the Buckhorn Saloon and Museum, we will browse exhibits on the Old West and wildlife in the Southwest.
Day 8 : Guenther House & SEA LIFE Aquarium
Enjoy a restful morning with time to venture out and soak up this beautiful city one more time before joining fellow travelers for a delightful included lunch. Nestled along the bend of San Antonio River, The Guenther House offers a charming setting to enjoy their flavorful signature dishes. Take a short stroll through the museum, mill store, or gourmet gift shop as you admire the Art Noveau and Victorian influences on this meticulously restored 1850s homestead. We spend the afternoon at SEA LIFE Aquarium enjoying spectacular encounters, including an interactive touchpool and ocean tunnel that gets you up close to 500 sea creatures. This evening, we are treated to a delicious Farewell Dinner.
